The Springfield Avenue Realignment Project was a fast track design and construction project that ultimately provided the infrastructure and acceptable site configuration to develop a regional distribution center for a national home improvement company. Construction plans for the $3.2 million improvement were prepared in 77 days and involved close coordination with the City of Rockford, the Illinois Department of Transportation and Thomas Graham Civil Design Group of Bozeman, Montana, the engineer for the distribution center. Delivering construction documents to the City of Rockford in less than 3 months allowed the city to award a construction contract for the road work and keep a new business committed to the Rockford area, bringing much needed employment and long term economic benefits to the community and the region.
The project involved the realignment and roadway widening and a new 20 inch water main. A primary truck entrance with traffic signals and a secondary employee entrance were also included in the construction.
McClure Engineering Associates, Inc. was responsible for all survey, civil engineering design, traffic engineering and permit applications for the Springfield Avenue Realignment Project, performing general coordination with the consultant responsible for the Lowe's Distribution Center Design.
